Producers for ‘The Hunger Games’ turned down Kellan Lutz because they "didn’t want anyone from ‘Twlight’," it has been claimed.
Lutz, who plays vampire Emmett Cullen in the popular ‘Twilight’ series, was hoping take on the role of Gale Hawthorne in the futuristic film based on the novels of the same name.
However producers rejected the 26-year-old actor on the basis they were not casting anyone from ‘Twilight,’ a source told US Weekly.
Australian actor Liam Hemsworth, 22, scored the part instead alongside Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson who will star together in all four films.
A Lionsgate representative hit back at the claims they turned down Lutz for the role saying "Kellan didn't audition but we think he's talented."
‘The Hunger Games’, which premieres next month, follows teenagers as they compete in an annual televised battle in which only one person can survive.
Lutz recently turned heads on the red carpet at at the premiere of the latest 'Twilight' film 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part I.'
