Lady Gaga has confessed that her eating disorder nearly ruined her singing voice so she overcame spaghetti to become the superstar she is today.

The 'Born This Way' singer discussed her eating problems during a young women's conference that was held at Brentwood School in Los Angeles earlier this week, according to The Huffington Post, and Lady Gaga revealed that while she was still at High School she made herself sick.

"I used to throw up all the time in high school, so I'm not that confident," said Gaga. "And maybe it's easier for me to talk about it now because I don't do it anymore. I wanted to be a skinny little ballerina but I was a voluptuous little Italian girl whose dad had meatballs on the table every night."

Her father, who now runs the family's restaurant Joanna Trattoria in New York used to feed her up, as Lady Gaga recalled: "I used to come home and say, 'Dad, why do you always give us this food? I need to be thin. 'And he'd say, 'Eat your spaghetti.'"

But the 'Paparazzi' singer admitted that her illness had a bad effect on her singing. "It made my voice bad. So I had to stop," she said.

"The acid on your vocal chords – it's very bad but for those of you who don't sing, you maybe don't have that excuse until it's too late. It's very dangerous."

Lady Gaga recently lashed out at Twitter users who were taunting the star with the trending topic '#GagasCareerDiedWithJamey'.
