Jim Carrey says he is proud of his daughter Jane despite being axed from American Idol on Wednesday night.
The 24-year-old failed to make it to the next round during Hollywood Week but her movie star dad thinks she is on the path to a successful singing career.
"I'm very proud of Jane," Carrey told Entertainment Tonight. "I believe in her talent as a singer and songwriter. Difficult moments are a necessary step along the path to success."
Speaking after her exit from the show, Jane said: "I freaked out when I was there and so I was really shaky. I know I can do way better than that so I'm really disappointed in myself... (My dad) said, 'I've been said no to a bunch of times' and it worked out well for him in the end, so hopefully I have a shot."
The 50-year-old 'Ace Ventura' star's only child with ex-wife Melissa Womer auditioned for the talent show in San Diego where she impressed judges Randy Jackson, Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler.
The singer has since had to fight off criticism that she made the cut thanks to her famous father’s connections.
The last name definitely helps and hurts," Jane said during her audition. "I feel like there's this pressure to maybe be better because if I make it somewhere, I run the risk of people saying, 'Oh, you only got there because of this.'"
Show producer Nigel Lythgoe took to Twitter to weigh in on her elimination. "So it's goodbye to Jane. She really was a good spirit. I just love that baby,” he wrote.
Carrey’s ex-wife Jenny McCarthy also tweeted about the singer. "Sad Jane Carrey got eliminated from American Idol. She was nervous. She is one of the most amazing singers! Hope she tries again next year!"
