New Girl actress Zooey Deschanel has dismissed her "it girl" tag, saying she isn't entirely sure what exactly "it" is.
Insisting that her recent success on the sitcom will not define her career, she told Allure magazine that the label makes her laugh.
"[An] 'it girl' is supposed to be something that only lasts a certain amount of time," she said. "They keep calling me an 'it girl', and at this point it makes me laugh, because they've done that so many times - 'You're it'; 'You're not it.' What is 'it'?"
Discussing the public perception of her image, she continued: "I'm bangs [fringe] and eyes. It's who I am. There have been periods when I've grown my bangs out, but I always cut them back, so it's like, why go through the trouble?"
New Girl made its UK debut on Channel 4 last month, and was picked up for a full season order by US network Fox last year.
Its first episode attracted 10.28 million viewers in the US last September, Fox's highest opening for a scripted show in ten years.
It has recently been reported that Zooey has been romantically chased by newly-single Russell Brand. That wouldn't happen to be because she looks like a twin of Katy Perry, would it?
