American Idol judge Jennifer Lopez bonded with auditionee and mother-of-two Brittnee Kellogg over balancing motherhood with career aspirations during the Portland auditions.

Before showing the judges her talented singing voice, the 27-year-old mother-of-two told the panel that her ex-husband had "held her back" from her singing dreams, but now she is ready to show everyone what she is made of.

Brittnee said: "I have two beautiful little boys. I was married and he held me back from doing what I wanted to do and this is what I wanted to do.

"He's a basketball player and I pursued his dreams with him and then he decided to go and pursue other women rather than basketball, and here I am."

Her audition song was the scornful 'You're No Good,' which prompted judge Steven Tyler to comment on her funny sense of humour. Randy Jackson praised the hopeful's “attitude and vibe” and Jennifer said she was “feeling” Brittnee’s song.

Of course the young mother received three yes's, and Brittnee took a quick moment to ask Jennifer how she juggles being a successful singer with having 3-year-old twins.

But before Jennifer could answer, Brittnee’s excited young sons burst in to the audition room with the rest of her family.

Jennifer explained to her: "You don't leave your kids. See, your kids are right here, my kids are right out there. You have to be happy so they are happy. It takes a village to raise babies. My mum is here with me too. When you have dreams you make them happen and they're only better for it."

Ahh we love Jen!
