Sarah Jessica Parker will play the role originally cast with Demi Moore in a new Linda Lovelace biopic, it has been confirmed.

The Sex And The City star is reported by Us Weekly to have finalised the move on Friday (January 27) after producers allegedly approached Weeds star Mary Louise Parker first.

Parker will play feminist Gloria Steinem in the film, titled 'Lovelace', which is due out later this year.

'Mean Girls' and 'Mamma Mia!' star Amanda Seyfried takes the title role, with Juno Temple, Sharon Stone, Hank Azaria and Peter Sarsgaard also on the bill. James Franco is set to play Hugh Hefner.

Moore pulled out of the production last week after being admitted to hospital with "exhaustion". She is said to be taking time out in a treatment centre while she recovers.

Her split from husband Ashton Kutcher amid speculation of his fidelity has kept Moore under close scrutiny from the world's media over the past few months.

Parker's last movie role was the critically-panned 'New Year's Eve'.
