One Direction's plan to crack the American market has been given a huge leg-up - as the pop quintet have landed a guest spot on TV series iCarly.

The show stars Miranda Cosgrove, of School of Rock fame, as a girl who hosts an online show with her friends.

MTV News reports that the boys' appearance will be in the upcoming fifth season, when Cosgrove's lead character falls ill after coming home from a trip.

Her mood is lifted by the news that One Direction will perform 'What Makes You Beautiful' on her show - only for Harry Styles to catch her bug. But, when the gang realise Harry is playing sick for the attention, they hatch a plan to get him back in the group by telling him another character, Gibby, has become their newest bandmember.

The boys are apparently going to be shooting their appearance on Monday (January 30), ahead of their album Up All Night's US release on March 20.

Yesterday Styles confirmed that his relationship with 32-year-old Caroline Flack has come to an end.
