Justin Bieber, through the power of Twitter, has had a huge impact on the number of registrations to an organ donor bank in Ontario...
It is undeniable that Justin Bieber is a kid with some serious influence. He has over 16 million followers on Twitter, countless Beliebers around the world and holds the 2011 title of 'most searched celebrity'.
And, whilst some people may use their newfound powers for evil, Justin is thankfully not one of them. In fact, he's known for being a charitable guy. Which is why, when a fan of his reached out to him on Twitter to help spread the word about organ and blood donation, he responded with gusto.
"Hey @justinbieber! I BELIEB you should use that Canadian voice of yours and save lives like mine #beanorgandonor beadonor.ca #giveblood," tweeted Helene Campbell, a girl in desperate need of a lung transplant.
Just two days later, Bieber re-tweeted her message to his mass Twitter following, along with a personal message of hope:
"i got the word....you have amazing strength. i got u."
Once Bieber was on board, the Beliebers soon followed; the plea for organ donors spread like wildfire across the social network. And, unsurprisingly, it worked!
The Trillium Gift of Life Network, an Ontario organ and tissue donor agencyo, quickly saw more and more people registering on their books. 565 people were on the books in just a few days; an amazing feat, considering it usually takes at least a few weeks to gain a hundred or so donors.
Bieber, we salute you!
Check out Bieber as a baby, before the power and the influence...
