Coronation Street picked up the award for Best Serial Drama at the national Television Awards, but did not forget to pay tribute to those who could not be there to share in the celebrations.
Betty Driver, who played barmaid Betty at the Rovers Return, died last October aged 91. The actress starred in 2,800 episodes of the show, despite the fact she'd only been contracted for three months.
Phil Collinson, the producer of the nation's favourite soap, said a few words about the woman famed for her Lancashire Hot Pots:
"Betty was a marvel. She was in the show for 42 years and was a wonderful woman. She’d have been so proud"
Phil was not the only one to speak fondly about Betty. Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Webster on the soap, accepted the award on behalf of the cast members and immediately dedicated it to her late colleague:
"This one is for Betty Driver"
Corrie was up against some stiff competition this year, including TV favourites EastEnders, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks for the title of Best Serial Drama.
