'The Help' actress Octavia Spencer has revealed that she and her co-stars were hungover when they heard of their Academy Award nominations yesterday.
The star has already scooped the Golden Globe Award for Actress in a Supporting Role, and is the firm bookmakers' favourite to win the Oscar with 1/10 odds.
"I am never presumptuous because these sorts of things are beyond our control and I didn't want to be set up for disappointment," she told Variety magazine.
"A lot of us actually went to dinner last night and slept over and wanted to be together when we found out, so in case we didn't get that call we wanted to be nice and hungover."
Co-star Viola Davis has been nominated for Actress In A Leading Role for her part in the movie, and Jessica Chastain will compete against Spencer. The film has also been nominated in the Best Picture category.
Spencer and Chastain face Melissa McCarthy for 'Bridesmaids', Janet McTeer for 'Albert Nobbs' and Berenice Bejo for 'The Artist' in the race for the Supporting Actress trophy.
The Academy Awards are due to take place on February 26. The nominations were announced by 'Hunger Games' actress Jennifer Lawrence yesterday.
