Daniel Radcliffe is thrilled that 'Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows Part Two' has received three Oscar nominations and thinks it was about time that the franchise was recognised by the Academy Awards.

The actor was full of praise for the teams behind the phenomenally successful franchise that have been awarded with three nominations.

The eighth and final film was named in the make-up, visual effects and art direction categories. The nominations were revealed on Tuesday in Los Angeles ahead of the awards at the Kodak Theatre on the 26th February.

The 22 year-old told Entertainmentwise: “I’m thrilled. I think we deserve those nominations.”

“My friends in hair and makeup have all been recognised and that’s a huge thing for me and also the art design and special effects.”

Daniel admitted that he does not think that he will be attending the ceremony next month, but promised to keep his fingers crossed for a win.

The actor was speaking at the UK premiere of his latest film 'The Woman In Black' on London's Southbank. Daniel happily greeted his fans, who had been waiting in the pouring rain for a glimpse of the star and enjoyed his first premiere-post Potter despite the dreadful British weather.

The film sees Daniel take the lead role in the classic ghoulish tale that has been adapted for successful TV and theatre productions.

The actor admitted that the tale's enduring popularity with fans was one of the things that drew him to the role in the frist place.

He said: “It’s a very classic story there is something very timeless about it.”

“I think it taps into that fear of losing children and losing those things that are so fundamental to us.”

Despite the actor's enthusiasm about the nominations not everyone in camp 'Potter' was happy with yesterday’s announcement.

There had been a hope that the final instalment of the film saga would be given a Best Picture or Best Adaptation nomination but this was not the case.

One of the filmmakers behind ‘Harry Potter’, Tim Burke told The Los Angeles Times: “It’s a shame it didn’t get more nominations in categories like best picture. It’s difficult to know quite why they are often shunned by the academy.”
