Mary J Blige has reacted negatively to the news that only two tracks have been nominated in the Best Original Song category at this year's Academy Awards.

The singer was responsible for the track 'The Living Proof', as featured in Best Picture nominee 'The Help'.

The film has also provided nominations for Viola Davis (for Actress in a Leading Role), Octavia Spencer and Jessica Chastain (both for Actress in a Supporting Role).

Blige wrote on Twitter: "I’m so thankful for true fans like you all. It saddens me & feels like the Academy is being mean. 2 only nominate 2 of the 5 slots is…"

The only two songs that did get put forward are 'Man or Muppet' from 'The Muppets' and 'Real in Rio' from 'Rio', alienating high-profile contenders such as Madonna's Golden Globe-winning 'Masterpiece' from 'W.E.' and Elton John and Lady GaGa's 'Hello Hello' from 'Gnomeo and Juliet'.

The Oscars will take place on February 26. The nominees were announced today.
