Talent seems to be run in the Carrey family after actor Jim Carrey's daughter Jane, auditioned for American Idol.

The 24-year-old who has been working as a waitress, stepped in front of judges Steven Tyler, Randy Jackson and Jennifer Lopez to explain why she wanted to audition.

She said: "It’s difficult growing up in a shadow trying to find your way. I feel like there is all this pressure to make it, but better."

Jane, who also has a son, added: "I am here to just make my place in the world."

Knowing who she was, Randy asked Jane: "Does father know you are here?", to which a confused Jennifer Lopez asked Randy who he was referring to before he revealed that Jane is Jim's daughter.

With the introductions out of the way, Jane got down to singing and impressed the judges, with Randy telling the hopeful: "I like you I like the voice I like the potential."

Reacting to the news that Jane had gotten through to the next round, the 'Dumb And Dumber' star could be heard saying: "She’s so wonderful, she’s amazing I can’t wait for the world to understand what she has. Way to go. Oh my god this is going to be an exciting year."
