Jay-Z threw a particularly lavish party last night for the reopening of his New York nightclub 40/40 and made his first public appearance since the birth of his daughter Blue Ivy.
The hip-hop heavyweight was not joined by his wife Beyonce for the event, as she stayed at home with their newborn who was born on January 7.
Jay-Z, 42, put on a champagne tower at the event that was made with 350 handmade gold Armand de Brignac bottles that was as tall as the ceiling and was crowned with a little baby-carrying stork.
"All that preparation must have been thirsty work - judging from the champagne tower Jay laid on. Nothing like that has ever been created before," an insider said. "It was a bit OTT but he's mad about his daughter. There's nothing he wouldn't do for her. You'd expect nothing less from the richest man in rap."
Guests that were in attendance included Alicia Keys and her husband Swizz Beatz, Ashanti, a few members of the New Jersey Nets basketball team, and director Spike Lee.
But just like security that oversaw the birth of Blue, it was to the max at the event last night.
"No wonder security was tight. A lot of money has been pumped into Jay's club, with state of the art 165in video screens, and they weren't about to take any risks with gate-crashers," an insider told The Mirror.
"Security was phenomenal, with guests being frisked at the door and people going through metal detectors to make sure no weapons were brought in for the club's grand re-opening."
Check out the proud daddy and guests...
