Tonight sees the start of the 11th season of American Idol, and Idol judge Jennifer Lopez has declared that the show is “true, real and authentic” in its depiction of the auditioning process.
Singer and actress Lopez, who sits on the panel alongside Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler and music producer Randy Jackson, will begin the search to find the next American star, travelling up and down the country in a bid to find unknown talent.
Speaking with Fox All Access, Lopez said: “It’s really how you have to do an audition…you have to impress those people or whoever is there at that table and then you go on from there.”
She added: “People know that. They like real and authentic. They don’t like things that are over-produced or anything like that. They like feeling, to watch something and be moved.
"I think Idol does that. It did it for me all the years I was watching it and now I’m just glad to be a part of doing that in a new way."
Steven Tyler, not one to stay silent, also commented: “They are a lot more talented now than they were 30 years ago. They got savvy, they got stones to come out and do what they do in front of us and take the brunt of our judging them. It’s turning out some great talent.”
American Idol premieres tonight and tomorrow on US channel Fox, featuring audition highlights from Savannah and Pittsburgh.
