The world seemed to stand still when actor Heath Ledger was tragically found dead in his New York apartment in 2008. Michelle Williams, his former fiancée and mother of his daughter Matilda, has, in the past, stayed tightlipped about their heartache. However in a rare interview with GQ she has opened up about that tough time which left her feeling “crazy”.
She said: “It was making me crazy. I felt like I was going crazy. It was too much - trying to deal with what had happened and trying to deal with what was at our doorstep. I just felt trapped.
“And it's not just me - there's somebody else who I'm trying to protect, and I can't. I can't make it stop, I can't make it go away. Trying to find ways to explain it or shield her from it.
“It's like you're trying to go about your life, and make dinner...but the roof is off of your house, and the walls are falling down."
Thanking her daughter, as she won a Golden Globe award this week for My Week With Marilyn, she said: “[Matilda's] bravery and exuberance is the example that I take with me in my work and in my life.”
