Ricky Gervais couldn't have offended that many people as he hosted the Golden Globes last year, because he returned for his third stint and still managed to pull in an impressive 16.8 million viewers.
Admittedly, we reckon that Gervais was given a bit of a dressing down after last year's cringe worthy moments - but he still kept the jokes rolling and managed to get one in there about Jodie Foster's 'Beaver'.
One critic from MTV US said: "The comedian might have talked a big game heading into the show, but Gervais' performance was a restrained one after last year's hullabaloo. What's great about the comedian is how he coats a witty mean-spiritedness with kindly, winking, you-know-I-still-love-you sugar. When your biggest dig is a fish-in-the-barrel attack on 'The Tourist,' you know you've caved to the worrywarts in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association."
According to Nielson Co., the 69th annual Golden Globes managed to pull in the steady number, which sets the benchmark for upcoming events for the awards season.
