Kate Winslet has revealed that she would love to play a man on the big screen and believes it is the hardest role for any actress to portray.

Speaking to the press after she won her Golden Globe this weekend for US TV serIes Mildred Pierce the 36-year-old admitted that it would be the greatest challenge to play someone of the opposite gender.

According to The Los Angeles Times she said: “I don't know what kind of man, and I don't know if that would happen or not, but I would be very interested in that because I think that would be the ultimate challenge."

Perhaps Kate was inspired by Glenn Close’s male role in ‘Albert Nobbs’ which bagged the actress a Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress and has been tipped for Oscar success.

One film role she did keep quiet on was the rumours that she would be playing Elizabeth Taylor in an upcoming biopic. She also refused to comment on what she thought of Lindsay Lohan reportedly taking on the same role for a Lifetime movie.

The ‘Titanic’ actress said: "I'm not gonna go there, dude. It's a bit of a hot zone, I think.”

Kate brought her new boyfriend Ned Rocknroll to the ceremony on Sunday for their first public appearance as a couple.

It was a great night for the Brits, with wins for Kate, Downton Abbey and Luther's Idris Elba.
