Pint-sized magician Paul Daniels - used to sawing wife Debbie McGee in half as part of his magic act - found himself at the wrong end of the saw on New Year's Day.

Paul was injured as he lost control of his power saw, after attempting DIY repairs around his family home in Berkshire.

Alone when the accident occurred, the magician, famous for his sleight-of-hand skills, wrapped his damaged hand and bravely drove himself to the nearest hospital.

Describing the incident, Paul told The Sun: "I scared the hell out of the young woman driving the car in front.

"I mounted the pavement and went round her on the left to get to the hospital. My head was full of pain and the possible end of the magic."

Luckily the accident will not spell the end of his magic career, as a specialist surgeon has been called in to repair his fingers. It has been reported that he will make a full recovery, although sadly the same cannot be said of his jokes.

He said: "My check-up will tell me more. I hope it will be the majority of what I did before, fingers crossed. Oops!"

Oh Paul!
