Coronation Street star Michael Le Vell has spoken of his despair following allegations that he sexually abused a school girl.

The father of two was relieved to see the Greater Manchester Police drop the allegations of assault against him following a thorough investigation last week.

However the Corrie actor has yet to put the ordeal behind him.

Revealing that he contemplated suicide over the false claims, the actor told The Sun: "It's been a struggle to stay sane. At times, I felt like throwing myself under a bus. I was in a bad way."

Known for playing mechanic Kevin Webster for nearly 30 years in the ITV1 soap, Michael has spoken out to give thanks to the public, his Coronation Street colleagues and ITV for their unwavering support

Following "three months of hell," the actor is ecstatic to be cleared, but fearful of the stigma from such allegations. He has returned to work on the popular soap and intends to put this difficult time behind him.

Michael, based in Cheshire, separated from his actress wife after 25 years of marriage, shortly after the allegations of sexual abuse were first reported.
