Both Russell Brand and Katy Perry have stayed quiet since the British comedian filed for divorce at the end of December, but it seems Brand’s sexual appetite was the reason their marriage failed.
36-year-old Russell, who is a recovering sex addict, admitted only days before the split was announced that he craves sex if he doesn’t get enough and that he missed his days as a womaniser.
According to Digital Spy, the comedian told Marc Maron’s WTF podcast: “If I leave food alone, I start to think food is the answer. If I leave sex alone I think sex is the answer. Or love.”
The couple, who got engaged at the end of 2009, spent much of their 14 month marriage apart due to work commitments. Cheating allegations soon began to swirl as Russell was pictured holding hands with a blonde woman.
The star revealed that he missed his previous hedonistic lifestyle and often thought fondly of the sex filled days. He said: “I'd do a gig and four or five women would come back. There were times when it wasn't all desperate and ugly. There were times when I was this representation of pure libertarianism and sexuality.
He added: "It's so hard not to cherish them and crave them.” Rumours of a split went into over-drive as the couple spent Christmas 7000 miles apart.
It is the nearest either have come to talking about the split, though Katy’s minister parents have talked about it in their church calling it a ‘gift from god’.
