'Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol' was cinemagoers' film of choice over the New Year period, taking an impressive £8.2 million since opening nationwide on Boxing Day.
The latest entry in the Tom Cruise franchise beat Rooney Mara and Daniel Craig's 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo', which took £4.3 million to take second place.
'Ghost Protocol' was also boosted by its early screenings on IMAX screens on December 21.
Last week's chart-topper, animated family film 'Arthur Christmas', tumbles down to seventh place as the festive season winds up for another year.
