Just as viewers are about to see Pat Evans take her last breath, the actress who plays her has slammed EastEnders for not reflecting society.
According to the Mirror, Pam St Clement, whose last scenes will be broadcast on New Year's Eve, claimed that the soap has too much "violence and adultery" for it to be realistic.
Pam, who has been in the BBC One Soap for 25 years, said: "It is not real life - drama is distilled life. We don’t have any of the boring bits, like going to the loo and doing the ironing.
“But it is meant to reflect society. Sometimes it reflects only one bit of society and some of the more positive sides aren’t reflected enough, which saddens me.
“I am not too sure that one little area of London has quite so much violence and adultery. Maybe in the search to be ever more interesting we are always pinning stories on things that are ever more ‘out there’, rather than remembering that good stories are about what happens in people’s hearts and in their relationships."
The actress added: "I sometimes don’t think we are bold enough with stories that come back to the characters. There are positive elements in society that aren’t always emphasised - and bad deeds are made to seem perhaps sometimes too easy and too commonplace.”
What do you think? Do you agree with Pam?
Farewell Pat!
