Director Baz Luhrmann has been injured on the set of his new film 'The Great Gatsby' and has needed three stitches.
The 'Moulin Rouge' director has been filming the silver screen adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's novel with Leonardo DiCaprio, Tobey Maguire and British actress Carey Mulligan in Sydney, Australia.
Just before Christmas (December 22), the shoot had to shut down early because the director cut his head open.
Anton Monsted, co-producer on the film, confirmed the incident while speaking to the Sydney Morning Herald: "We were on quite a cramped set and he was ducking under the crane.
"He struck his head on the weights on the end of the camera crane. He split open his head and we had to get the doctor."
It was expected that the 83-day shoot was going to finish early in time for Christmas, but now the cast and crew must return to Australia for "pick-ups" in the new year.
"There's a few days owing due to rain and then there will also be what we would have shot, had we continued filming after Baz's injury," he said.
But Anton believes that the crew finished the year on a "big high" even though Baz was hurt.
He said: "Filming has gone extremely well. The only obstacle we've really faced has been bad weather."
