Daniel Craig was concerned about signing up for the Hollywood version of 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo' because he thought it would 'sanitize' the dark and violent story.
The 43-year-old, who plays Mikael Blomkvist in the film was a fan of the Steig Larsson trilogy and had to make sure the adaptation was true to the original work before he accepted the part.
He told MTV News: "However much I wanted to work with David, I was a little concerned. Understandably, I thought that they'd maybe try to sanitize it. It's a big movie, and they have to make their money back, but they hadn't, and David was in charge, so it was a no-brainer."
Daniel, who stars alongside Rooney Mara in the film revealed he was attracted to the 'realness' of his character and the believability of the world that Stieg Larsson created. He said: "The only thing I wanted to do is make him real. He's a guy, he's a man, he's very happy in his own skin. "
The 'Bond' star went on to praise Rooney's portrayal of the troubled Lisabeth Salander who takes the central role of the film who his character turns to, to help solve the murder mystery.
He said: " he has no problem when it comes down to it, he runs away and goes to her . I would: She's more than capable."
Daniel revealed earlier this month that his co-star Rooney really suffered on the shoot for the violent-action thriller.
