Matt Damon has admitted he wants to return to the Bourne Franchise if the next installment starring Jeremy Renner is a success.
The 41-year-old actor, who pulled out of the fourth film only to be replaced by Renner, revealed he decided to leave because there was nowhere for the story to go but would return if the franchise could be 'rebooted'.
He told GQ Magazine: "If you look at the first three movies, we kind of pounded that idea of identity and amnesia into the ground. We really got everything out of it that we could. So to reboot it, we need to come up with something completely new."
Matt has praised the choice of Renner as his successor and revealed that he had previously discussed the actor as a possible addition to the franchise.
He told MTV News: "When Paul Greengrass and I were talking about the character and maybe doing a fourth one a couple years ago and maybe passing it off to somebody, Renner was the guy we talked about. He's an obvious choice, because he's such a good actor and can carry a movie."
The Oscar-winner was less than complimentary about Tony Gilroy, who wrote the first-screenplay for 2007's 'The Bourne Ultimatum' and will direct the fourth film. Gilory submitted the first version of the script only to have it changed beyond recognition.
Matt told GQ: "This is a career-ender. I mean, I could put this thing up on eBay and it would be game over for that dude. It's terrible. It's really embarrassing. He was having a go, basically, and he took his money and left."
Matt's comments follow Jeremy Renner's admission that he would love Jason Bourne to return to the franchise.
