Gareth Malone's Military Wives choir have scored the most pre-ordered music product of all time on a leading retail website.

The feats mean that hugely anticipated albums such as Take That's 'Progress', Coldplay's 'X&Y' and Susan Boyle's 'I Dreamed A Dream' have been beaten.

Amazon have also announced that 'Wherever You Are' is the biggest-selling single of all time on the site, with one week still to go before it is officially released. The previous record-holder for that accolade was Peter Kay And His Animated All-Star Band's official Children In Need single in 2009.

"Pre-orders for the single have been so strong they have outstripped those achieved by Take That’s 2010 album ‘Progress’ almost three times over," said the site's Roger Greensmith. "This is a tremendous achievement when you consider that Take That’s album marked Robbie’s return and was one of the most highly-anticipated music releases ever.

"With a week of pre-orders still to go, this puts the Military Wives choir in a great position to be Christmas number one.”

The single is released this Sunday, December 19, and is the clear bookies' favourite to be declared Christmas Number One on December 25 itself.
