Steven Spielberg has revealed that Michael Jackson was originally cast to play Peter Pan in his 1991 film 'Hook', but pulled out after disagreeing with the director over the vision for the movie.
'Hook' proved to be one of Spielberg's rare disappointments over his long career, failing to sparkle either critically or commercially.
He told Entertainment Weekly: "Michael had always wanted to play Peter Pan, but I called Michael and I said, 'This is about a lawyer that is brought back to save his kids and discovers that he was once, when he was younger, Peter Pan.'
"Michael understood at that point it wasn't the same Peter Pan he wanted to make."
Robin Williams went on to play the boy that never grew up, with Dustin Hoffman taking on the role of Captain Hook.
Spielberg's latest film, 'War Horse' had its world premiere in New York last night (Dec 4).
