Conrad Murray has been sentenced to four years behind bars for his role in the death of Michael Jackson.
Murray was convicted of involuntary manslaughter earlier this month after a six-week trial. The doctor was revealed to have administered propofol, a powerful anaesthetic, to treat Jackson's chronic insomnia, and then left the pop superstar unattended.
Conrad has been sentenced to the maximum term of four years for what Superior Court Judge Michael Pastor termed a "horrific violation of trust". It is hoped that his punishment will act as a warning to other ohysicians working for the rich and famous.
Murray could serve just half of the sentence because of overcrowding in California jails, but will undoubtedly lose his ability to practise medicine and face a life of ostreacisation following this high-profile trial.
