George Michael's life may have been saved by a space-age £100,000 bed, but the treatment may have put his singing future at serious risk.

George has been battling severe pneumonia in intensive care room in Vienna, Austria, and, despite the machine saving his life, it may have ended his singing career.

The ventilator machine forces air in and out of George's ailing lungs, which is helping the star to pull through the worst of his disease. It works alongside a constantly tilting bed, which rocks George gently from side to side up to 40 degrees, relieving the pressure on his lungs.

However, doctors have reported that, depending how long the Wham! star is on the machine, his illness will affect his capaity to sing.

"The pressure is very close to his vocal cords and it could affect them."

Fingers crossed that George makes a speedy recovery...
