Michelle Williams is to be honoured for her performance in 'My Week with Marilyn'.
Williams, who plays Marilyn Monroe in the film, is to be the recipient of the Desert Palm Achievement Actress Award at the 23rd annual Palm Springs International Film Festival at a gala on January 7, 2012.
Previous winners of the award include George Clooney and Glenn Close, Variety reports.
Festival chairman Harold Matzner said: "Every generation, the cinema has a few performers who mesmerise audiences with an exceptional blend of talent, versatility and grace. Michelle Williams epitomises these qualities as she continues to accept challenging role after challenging role.
"In her latest work 'My Week With Marilyn', she perfectly captures the glamour and vulnerability of the iconic Marilyn Monroe who finds respite and solace during a week-long hiatus from Hollywood pressures."
Williams, who is hotly tipped to win an Oscar for her performance, recently told USA Today: "I just tried to make her presence gradually and unobtrusively fill my life and my house. I tried to build it, so it didn’t feel like work or study that I had to do, just a slow seeping in. I started to try and mimic what I saw and what I heard privately in my house, and I started to take that little bit out in the world, try something in the post office or the grocery store."
Emma Watson stole the limelight in Williams's absence at the UK premiere of the movie earlier this week.
'My Week with Marilyn' is released on November 25.
