Four huge British acts are embroiled in a close race to No. 1 this weekend.

New records from Susan Boyle, Cher Lloyd and The Wanted were released on Monday, and are threatening to dethrone Florence + The Machine's current chart-topper Ceremonials.

Today's first midweek sales flash from Music Week shows Florence holding on to her crown by the skin of her teeth, with less than 3,000 copies separating her from Boyle's Someone To Watch Over Me at No. 2.

The Wanted's Battleground and Cher Lloyd's Sticks + Stones are also posing a threat at Nos 3 and 4 respectively, with sales figures that leave analysts unable to confidently predict who will finish where come Sunday's final rundown.

The boyband's Max George commented on the progress on Twitter this morning, saying: "So...Battleground doin well so far... But who hasnt got it yet...ur missing out!! (sic)"

In the singles chart, JLS are fighting off Rihanna with their new single 'Take A Chance On Me', which is only a few thousand copies ahead of the international superstar's latest effort.
