Ricky Gervais has said that children's ambitions are being stifled in the United Kingdom.
The comedian also said how he never wanted to be famous, and that he was never encouraged to go outside his comfort zone.
Gervais told The Sun: "As a working-class Brit I believed it was better to never try than risk failing.
"Americans believe they can be president. British kids are told, 'Don't be stupid. It won't happen for you'."
As a way of reflecting this, Gervais says his new sitcom, 'Life's Too Short', "reflects fame-hungry monsters who'll do anything to be on telly."
'Life's Too Short', which stars Warwick Davis as the head of a talent agency, and features guest performances from the likes of Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham Carter, airs on BBC Two from November 10.
