As Robbie Williams has departed from Take That to concentrate on his solo material, news has emerged that the singer has also split from his long-term record label EMI.
The label has been behind Williams' whole solo career in a deal that he signed in 2002 for a reported £50 million, but now he's moved on to pastures new - at rival company Universal.
Robbie's band Take That is also signed to Universal and were behind their hit album Progress last year. Talking about his upcoming ninth solo album release, which is scheduled for next year,
Williams said: "I'm really thrilled to be joining the Universal family at what I think is the most exciting time in my career."
The 'Let Me Entertain You' singer's manager, who is also the director ie:music, said: "This great new deal puts Robbie Williams firmly in control of his own destiny, but with the most muscular of partners."
