Film producer Kevin Feige has confirmed that the sequel to the ensemble film The Avengers will be introducing new superheroes.
Feige, who is also a Marvel Studios Executive, recently discussed what he refers to as 'the second phase of the company's superhero strategy' which is set to begin after the release of The Avengers, Thor 2 and Iron Man 3.
During an interview with IGN, Feige admitted the films will be focusing on new superhero characters: "Absolutely. That's the fun of it. Introducing new characters."
He also confirmed Iron Man 3 would set up the Avengers sequel The Avengers 2: "It will be what we refer to as Phase Two of this Avengers Assemble talk, which will lead to The Avengers 2."
According to IGN, the new superheroes already discussed have been Ant-Man, Doctor Strange, The Wasp and Black Panther. The Avengers 2 is expected to be released in 2015.
The first Avengers instalment is currently being filmed and will see Robert Downey Jr., Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, and Mark Ruffalo reprise their roles as Iron Man, Captain America, Thor and The Incredible Hulk respectively.
The Avengers will be released May 4, 2012.
