Hugh Jackman's Real Steel and the remake of the hit musical film Footloose have been competing for the top place of the US box office.
According to studio estimates, it was reported that sci-fi drama Real Steel took $16.3 million this weekend, a close sum to Footloose, which opened with $16.1 million.
The films have been competing tightly against each other but Disney's head of distribution for Real Steel revealed he expects his film to come out on the top because of the amount of families attending day-time screening on sundays.
"Absolutely," said Dave Hollis, Disney's head of distribution. "The way we've been playing, the families who've been coming and the kind of day-time business we've had on each of the weekend days so far, we have the expectation that it won't be terribly close. They're free to estimate as they will, but we expect to be number one."
Paramount's head of distribution for Footloose also commented on the matter and admitted they had expected the movie's revenues to be slightly ahead of those for Real Steel.
