Lily Cooper (nee Allen) couldn't keep quiet about Jessie J's MOBO Award wins, perhaps it was a little envy, or genuine confusion but the newly-married star questioned whether the Do It Like A Dude singer is really eligible to win an award for music "of black origin".
Jessie J was in Glasgow to collect four out of the five awards that she had been nominated for, which included Best Song for her debut single Do It Like A Dude, Best Album, Best Act and Best Newcomer.
Cooper, tweeted her comments yesterday, saying: “Now, I love Jessie J as much as the next person, but how is her music “of black origin”? Is it ‘cause she says “man dem” in her tune?”
She later replied to a fellow tweeter that she was a fan of Jessie J, as she wrote: "I am happy for her,I'm a big supporter of hers, I just don't get the logic of those awards."
Meanwhile, Jessie J said that she didn't go to the awards expecting to take anything home. As she collected her award for Best Album, she said: “Wow. I did not expect to win at all. I just want to say the biggest thank-you to my fans because I watched this last year by myself in my living room and no-one knew who I was and now I just won the best album.”
