Kate Winslet has said that her life is "incredibly exciting" now that she has divorced her ex Sam Mendes.
The Oscar-winning actress, who has now been romantically linked to Richard Branson's nephew Ned Rocknroll, has admitted that even though she's enjoying her life, it is still "complicated".
Divorcing Mendes was like opening a "f***ing big can of worms", in a new interview with Harper's Bazaar magazine.
The Mildred Pierce star, 35, said: "I feel that I’m just at the beginning of a new narrative and it’s incredibly exciting. It’s complicated, I know, and uncertain – but it’s where life happens, between the cracks."
Winslet, who recently picked up her Emmy for the US series, said that she'd spent quite a while ignoring the problems in her marriage.
"As a woman, especially when you have children, one gets so good at soldiering on – almost too good," Winslet explained."I realise that I probably had very few moments of allowing that sadness to emerge. Because you know what it’s like – as soon as you open that can of worms, it’s so f***king big, you wish you’d never taken the goddamn lid off."
But the actress is not going to waste time hating on the 46-year-old director and has said that she's up for the more mature approach.
"I’m not going to s***- fling, there’s no point in even going there. We’re grown-ups at the end of the day and however hard it’s been for me, it’s been equally hard for him," she said.
In the September issue of the magazine, Winslet also explained how her divorce gave her some perspective for her HBO series.
"There’s a scene where Mildred and Bert are divorced and they sit down together because they’ve got to settle on a cause," she said. "The first stage of my divorce with Sam came through on that day. So that scene is nothing to do with acting."
