Jude Law is among a string of celebrities speaking out in support of a Global Truce on Peace Day, 21 September 2012.
The annual Peace Day, on which it is hoped a worldwide ceasefire will take place, has been an international event since 2001, and this year the occasion will be marked with a concert at the O2 Arena featuring Razorlight, Eliza Doolittle and Yusuf. The show will launch the countdown to a Global Truce on the same day in 2012.
Law travelled to Afghanistan in 2007 with Peace One Day founder Jeremy Gilley to spearhead an initiative that has since resulted in the vaccination against polio of 4.5 million children.“I’ve seen how Peace Day saves lives,” he said.
“Peace One Day is inviting all sectors of society to observe a Global Truce on Peace Day 21 September 2012. It’s up to all of us to get involved.”
Other stars who have spoken out in support of the campaign include Annie Lennox, Angelina Jolie, Lenny Kravitz, Kasabian, Bryan Adams, Peter Gabriel and James Morrison.
