The ladies of Wysteria Lane will soon be packing up after ABC confirmed that it is pulling the plug on Desperate Housewives next year.

Having premiered in 2004, Terri Hatcher's Susan Mayer and Eva Longoria's Gabrielle Solis soon became household names when we became transfixed with the secrets the characters held behind their perfect white picket fences.

Speaking about the show coming to an end after 7 successful seasons, ABC's president Paul Lee said: "It is an iconic show, we’re extremely proud of it. I wanted to make sure this show had its victory lap."

The show's creator, Marc Cherry added: "The only thing harder than creating a hit show is knowing when to end it", before describing how he told the cast the sad news: "It was bittersweet and lovely, because the women knew there was the possibility… They said some very lovely things to me about how I've changed their lives and careers.

"I truly, truly love every one of them. (They) fill me up with such emotion inside; I love my cast. (They're) people who are smart enough to be grateful."

Giving us a clue about how the final season will end, Marc revealed that they would be going back to the "roots of Mary Alice", The character who narrates the show and whose death was the catalyst for the popular show.
