James Franco reckons there’s a Brokeback Mountain element to the relationship between Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner in the Twilight Saga.
The actor - who is set to begin a Ph.D in English at Yale University this Autumn - admits to reading the first three books in the vampire series but insists his interest is purely down to enlightened curiosity.
“I wouldn’t say I enjoy them, but I’m fascinated with them,” he told MTV News of Stephenie Meyer’s books.
But James has been studying the books and the films closely - and has an interesting take on Edward and Jacob’s fraught relationship.
“There will be a scene [in Eclipse] where the go-to guys, Taylor and Rob, are in the tent, it’s almost like a Brokeback Mountain scene, where the two guys are talking in a tent and the girl is asleep, and they’re having, like, this romantic moment almost through her, in a way,” James explained.
“One of them says, ‘Well, I’m hotter than you,’ and it’s almost like they’re winking at the fans, like to the Team Jacob or the Team Edwards.”
If James doesn't do his Ph.D on Twilight, he'll be missing a trick.
