Brittany Murphy Website Closed Down

And donations have been returned...

A foundation set up in the late actress, Brittany Murphy's honour was shut down over the weekend due to TMZ.com finding out that the group behind the foundation didn't have non profit status.

The foundation which collected money for arts education for children was not a registered charity with the IRS or state of California, something which is required by law.

Brittany's husband, Simon Monjack and her mum Sharon Murphy have been running the foundation.

According to usmagazine.com, the site was up and running again by Sunday with a message posted on the site informing people that they would no longer be accepting donations,

“Until we have our non profit status approved before proceeding to insure that we can truly honor Brittany's charitable desires.”

Unfortunately, this isn't the first time the foundation in Brittany's name has come under disrepute. Earlier this month, Simon cancelled the launch party for the website, when a source revealed to usmagazine.com that Simon was suggesting that attendees should donate $1,000 each and co-operations $10,000.

“Everyone thinks its very tacky that he is making it so much about money” a source said.

RIP Brittany.
