Kate Moss has ignited Selfridges bosses’ fury by insisting that they provide a smoking area for the launch of her handbag collection.
Longchamp will launch the range of Kate Moss-designed bags at the London department store later on this month.
But event organisers are worried that the model will spend more time in the VIP area than fulfilling her promotional duties.
A source told the Daily Mirror: “Longchamp are spending a fortune on the sponsorship deal to boost the label. But it’ll look more of a promotion for brand Moss.
“The outside area is a bit of a problem. Her people want couches, cushions, tables, heaters and candles to make it comfy for her to have a cigarette.
“But she’s only due to be there for an hour. They don’t want to pay out lots for her to mingle with selected guests, only for her to hide in her VIP room drinking champagne with her pals.”
It just goes to show how much pulling power Kate Moss has as a brand, as she recently confessed she has very few design skills.
She told Harpers Bazaar: I'm not really a fashion designer. I just love clothes. I've never been to design school. I can't sketch. I can't cut patterns and things. I can shorten things. I can make a dress out of a scarf.”
