A member of the infamous ‘bling ring’ explained why Paris Hilton was targeted first in a series of thefts from Hollywood homes: she’s “dumb”.

Speaking with Vanity Fair, Nick Prugo said: “Like, who would leave a door unlocked? Who would leave a lot of money lying around?”

He added that the Simple Life star had left her key under her doormat, but also apologised to his victims on an American morning programme.

The gang of six used the internet to find their favourite star's addresses, and would routinely check windows and doors to see if they could sneak a way in.

Prugo, said on Good Morning America: "There was a definite thrill to it,"

"I don't think any of us realised how severe it was until we actually got caught. It didn't seem as bad as it was.”

The celebrity-obsessed gang stole goods worth £30,000 from Audrina Partridge and £85,000 from Lindsay Lohan.

But they got their best deal from Paris, managing to pilfer valuables worth £1.2million from her mansion.
