Kristen Stewart and Dakota Fanning have spoken about the scenes of drug use in their new movie, The Runaways.

The pair are seen snorting cocaine in a bathroom in the film, which tells the story of the 1970s all-female rock band.

Speaking at the film's premiere at the Sundance Film Festival, Kristen, who plays Joan Jett, insisted they weren't setting a bad example to young fans.

“I've been exposed to everything under the [sun]," Kristen said.

"I think that if you don't realise the people you look up to [are just acting, that's a problem]. This is also a really hard question for me."

Dakota told MTV: "This is [about] real people. This is their real experience. It's the story.

“[Us doing drugs] is just about finding the beats, you know what I mean?"

The Runaways, which also stars Tatum O'Neal, is due to be released in March. You can see exclusive stills here.
