Ugly Betty, which stars America Ferrera as a geeky fashionista, will come to an end after its fourth series.
Based on a Colombian telenovela, the comedy was developed by Salma Hayek to a U.S. setting.
It launched in 2006 to great critical reception, and has since won many awards, including two Golden Globes and two Emmys.
The programme featured cameos from stars such as Victoria Beckham, Lindsay Lohan and Naomi Campbell, with Shakira appearing on an upcoming episode.
However, its US ratings have fallen from 8.1m to 5.3m viewers between the third and fourth series, and ABC bosses have decided to call quits on the show.
Executive producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson released a joint statement saying: "We've mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty's final season,"
"We are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion.
"We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series."
