Cheryl Cole and Bon Jovi are the latest big stars to sign up to Simon Cowell's charity single for the victims of the recent earthquake in Haiti.

The Girls Aloud single recorded her vocal part on the song – a cover of Everybody Hurts by REM – in London yesterday.

Susan Boyle was also present at yesterday's recording session, while Bon Jovi are expected to record their vocals remotely.

Meanwhile, The Sun – which has helped organised the single – reports that plans are in place for the song to be performed at the BRIT awards next month.

"A special production meeting was called to reconsider the running order to include the song,” a source said.

"It's something that has never happened before. But the events in Haiti have made everybody sit up and take notice."

Other confirmed artists include: Robbie Williams, Take That, Mariah Carey, Miley Cyrus, Cheryl Cole, Leona Lewis, JLS and Alexandra Burke.

It is hoped that the song can be released as soon as possible after recording is completed.

All proceeds from the charity single will go to The Sun's Helping Haiti fund and the official Disasters Emergency Committee.
