Who would have thought that lothario John Mayer would ever be sorry for breaking up with Jennifer Anniston.

But it seems as though time has come for John to eat humble pie.

Talking to Rolling Stone magazine, the singer admitted that breaking up with Aniston was “one of the worst times of my life” and that “I've never really gotten over it".


He appears on the cover of the latest issue.

“I'm the a*****e,” he told the magazine. “I burned the American flag. I basically murdered  an ideal.”

The doomed romance began in April 2008, with John and Jen getting close in a short space of time.

However, it proved to be to much and they split up twice, most recently in January 2009.
