Mariah Carey has admitted she drank too much champagne before giving an acceptance speech at a recent awards ceremony.
The singer appeared merry as she collected the breakthrough acting award at the Palm Springs International Festival on Tuesday.
During her speech, Mariah, who won the prize for new movie Precious, frequently wondered back-and-forth between different subjects.
The usually long acceptance triggered speculation in the US media that the singer-turned-actress was drunk.
Speaking at the People's Choice Awarsd on Wednesday, Mariah admitted that she had had too much to drink – and claimed it was the fault of Precious director Lee Daniels.
“There’s a time for celebration and a time for not, but really, technically, it’s kind of like a party atmosphere,” she said.
“We had splashes of champagne, and I love Lee but he’s a bad influence.”
Meanwhile, Mariah also enjoyed success at the People's Choice Awards in Los Angeles, winning the prize for Best R&B singer.
