A woman has come forward claiming she was married to Michael Jackson in the 1970s, according to reports.

Shellie Doreen Smith is understood to have filed legal papers with the late singer's estate.

According to TMZ, she claims the pair married at a hotel in New York, although she can't remember exactly when.

Smith is reported to be asking for Michael's estate to grant spousal support.

The singer, who died last June, married Lisa Marie Presley in 1994 before tying the knot with nurse Debbie Rowe two years later.

Debbie is mother to Michael's eldest children – Prince Michael, 12, and Paris Jackson, 11. The pair split in 1999.
